Beryl — One Mineral, Many Colours

Aquamarine. Morganite. Heliodor.

Different colours, different characters — and all members of the same mineral family.

Beryl has an extraordinary ability to move through colour: from the cool blues of aquamarine and soft pinks of morganite to the warm golden tones of heliodor. It is this variety that has made beryl a recurring presence in LEYSER jewellery.

One family. Different personalities.

In 2019, LEYSER collaborated with make-up artist Greta Mua and portrait photographer Carlos Cordero on a series exploring colour through portraiture and gemstones.

Rather than matching jewellery to a particular look, the photographs brought different varieties of beryl together — allowing colour, light and personality to do the rest.

Aquamarine brings clarity and coolness. Morganite introduces softer blush tones. Heliodor moves towards yellow and gold.

Chemically related. Visually quite different.

Designed around the stone

For us, that individuality is where a piece of jewellery begins.

A large aquamarine may call for an entirely different setting from a morganite of similar proportions. Colour, transparency, cut and scale determine how we approach the stone and what surrounds it.

Sometimes different varieties of beryl can also be brought together within a single piece, creating a conversation between colours that share the same mineral origin.

The photographs below are from our 2019 portrait series — an exploration of beryl, colour and jewellery through a different lens.

From mines to masterpieces.
